“I wish the government knew how proud I am of my neighbour. I wish the government shared this sense of pride with me. I wish they saw the effort he puts into my community to make it what it is, and realised how hard he works for what he has. Instead, all they view him as is a single name: a refugee.

He has escaped a life of misery and danger to make a fresh start in Australia and has integrated himself into our community, sharing his home grown fruit and veg with all of the families around him, despite not being able to see his own. I wish the government would be able to see him as more than just a refugee.

I wish the government knew that my community welcomes his family. My community welcomes refugees.”
